Dr. Anthony Fauci is testifying before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on the origins of COVID-19 and the federal response to the pandemic.
Dr. Anthony Fauci began his opening statement by discussing his experience with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He then went on to dispute some accusations made against him relating to the theory that COVID-19 stemmed from a lab in Wuhan, China. Fauci explained that he spoke with many scientists around the globe about the lab leak theory and always kept an “open mind.”
“The accusation being circulated that I influenced these scientists to change their minds by bribing them with millions of dollars in grant money is absolutely false and simply preposterous,” Fauci said.
Fauci also addressed accusations that he attempted to cover-up the theory that the virus originated from a lab and said, “in fact, the truth is exactly the opposite.”
“I have always kept an open mind to the different possibilities,” he said after reading an email he sent to a fellow scientists about the possibility of the virus originating from a lab.
